I am a 27 year old attorney and legal content writer, living in Chicago with my boyfriend of several years and our dog Henry. I attended Purdue University for my undergraduate degree and Michigan State University for law school. After graduating, I needed a new adventure and Chicago was, and has since been, the perfect fit.
I started this blog for a number of reasons. First, I am one of the roughly 1.6 million Americans living with IBD and have come to a point recently where hiding my illness has become more of a nuisance than the actual disease itself. Being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease has brought about a series of ups and downs over the last decade, as you will gather from the posts. As I continue to understand and cope with it, I feel the need to raise awareness for these conditions and advocate for those without a voice.
Also, this is my creative outlet. With a background in science and a career as an attorney, it is not a surprise that I am a traditionally left brained, rule abiding person. But I have a lot of fun hobbies and a few side hustles that help keep my life interesting. This blog is my chance to continue celebrating those differences, my thoughts and feelings, as well as the outside research and work I have put in to eating healthy, living well, having fun, being informed, and also juggling my condition while leading a ‘normal’ life for someone my age. I am really excited about the opportunity to expand on those experiences dealing with Crohn’s Disease over the past ten years as well as, the not so serious and fun times I have had along the way!
Life’s peaks and valleys can take you to unimaginable places, but what you make of those experiences depends on your perspective.
